The Extek 3441 is a silver duplicator for acetate base film with a glass cylinder, variable speed and exposure, and no vacuum chamber.
The Extek 3441 is a silver duplicator designed specifically for copying acetate base microfilm. Unlike conventional silver duplicators it has no vacuum chamber: the film runs over a glass cylinder and belt, similar to a Diazo duplicator.
Speed and exposure are both variable, so damaged acetate film affected by vinegar syndrome can be duplicated at a low, controlled speed of about 25 ft per minute, preserving its content on new film before it degrades further. The comparable speed for polyester film is 300 to 350 ft per minute.
| Device type | Silver Duplicator |
|---|---|
| Target film | Acetate base |
| Typical speed for damaged acetate film | 25 Ft. per minute |
| Comparable speed for polyester film | 300 to 350 Ft. per minute |
